Peavine Falls near Birmingham in Oak Mountain State Park is a beautiful waterfall with a steep approach at the top of the falls. It's tough to photograph from the top, so make your way to the bottom for the best photos and a chance to get a little wet!

Peavine Falls - Trip Details
After entering the park, proceed to the parking area for Peavine Falls. The trail to the falls is about 1/2 mile and is downhill all the way. The last few hundred yards gets pretty steep as you climb down to the base of the falls, and this is the part that could be tough for small kids and dogs. The hike out and back is about 1 mile total and is well marked.
There are also plenty of other trails in the park if you're interested in spending a day outside.
More Waterfalls around Oak Mountain State Park
Falling Rock Falls and Davis Falls are within 20 minutes if you want a full day of just waterfalls. Moss Rock Preserve and Waterfalls are just 10 minutes north so that can be an option also. Otherwise, check out the other trails and the lake at Oak Mountain State Park.
