Lost Falls – Trip Details

As a large family, we find renting a home for a night much more relaxing than a hotel, and it's so nice to have a place nearby to crash after a long day of hiking! You can find nice, affordable homes on Vrbo.

Lost Falls is situated in DeSoto State Park, home of many great views and several waterfalls. Trails are each marked with a color so you won’t get lost on your way. On the Lost Falls trail, you will have the opportunity to explore the boulders and CR caves. Your journey starts with a hike through the wooden footbridge that leads uphill. Along the way, you will see the Needle Eye Rock which is actually the boulder split in half. Continue your way towards the hillside where you will pass through a ravine. This is where the 5-foot Lost Falls and 6-foot Laurel Falls are located. You will also witness the CR caves which has been formed as cave-like structures. The formation is caused by the water gradually eroding the surrounding rock walls. Here, you will also find the Azalea Cascade which is known as the smallest waterfall in the park at 3 feet tall.

Start your journey at Fort Payne going to the east on AL 35. After a one mile journey, turn left to find DeSoto Parkway. Drive 5 more miles towards the park entrance. Once you’re there, go approximately 1.5 miles towards the trailhead on the right to start your hike to the falls. You can follow the orange or blue trails to get to the falls. Maps are available in the country store.
