High Falls - Trip Details

Located just south of Lake Guntersville, formed by the Tennessee River, High Falls is an impressive site at times of high flow. Approximately 35 feet high and up to 300 feet across, the falls make for a beautiful site at the end of a short hike.

Make your way toward the river from the parking lot and enjoy viewing the falls from the pedestrian bridge above the falls or wading above the falls to cool off in the creek when the water is lower.  Just please be careful of the slick rocks and play well upstream from the falls where there is plenty of time to recover if someone slips and falls.

Good pictures of the falls are difficult to come by.  Due to the nearly vertical cliff on the north side of Town Creek, there is a tall fence along the northern side with significant tree growth to obstruct pictures.  But, there are still a few places to snap decent pictures before you walk down to the creek.

Depending on the water level, you may be able to walk right up to the natural archway on the northern side of the falls.

Also, if you don't have a dog or young kids, it's possible to cross the pedestrian bridge and then head downstream of the dam to get a view from the bottom.  The way down is still very steep, but there are several ropes in place to help you get down and back up.
